Imam Hamza Ragab serves as the Imam of our community, bringing with him a strong foundation in both traditional Islamic scholarship and contemporary academic studies.
Born in Egypt into a family of scholars, Imam Hamza was raised in an environment deeply connected to the Qur’an and the legacy of Al-Azhar University. Both of his parents are graduates of Al-Azhar, and from an early age, he was nurtured upon the path of sacred knowledge. He began memorizing the Qur’an at the age of three under the guidance of his father and was recognized early for his recitation, participating in Qur’anic morning broadcasts (Eza‘a) associated with Al-Azhar.
After moving to the United States, Imam Hamza grew up in Brooklyn, where he continued his journey with the Qur’an and completed its memorization at the age of ten. He later received an ijazah in the recitation of Hafs ‘an Asim and continues advancing in the study of the ten canonical modes of recitation (Al-Qira’at al-‘Ashr).
Following the scholarly path of his family, Imam Hamza pursued formal Islamic studies at Al Azhar University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Usul al-Din, specializing in the Hanafi madhhab. He also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Usul al-Din from Islamic University of Minnesota. In addition to his Islamic education, he also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and is currently pursuing further studies in dentistry.
As our Imam, he is dedicated to teaching the Qur’an, guiding the community upon authentic knowledge, and fostering a strong connection to faith, character, and purpose. His approach combines traditional scholarship with a deep understanding of the challenges facing Muslims today, making his teaching both rooted and relevant.
Imam Hamza is actively involved in leading prayers, delivering sermons, teaching Qur’an classes for both youth and adults, and providing counseling and guidance to members of the community. His mission is to help individuals and families reconnect with the Qur’an, strengthen their relationship with Allah, and live Islam with clarity, confidence, and sincerity.
