ISA joins with Welcoming America to Host Welcome Pickleball Tournaments
Saturday September 14th 2:30 – 4:30PM (Women)
Saturday September 21st 2:30 – 4:30PM (Men)
Welcoming America leads a movement of inclusive communities becoming more prosperous by making everyone feel like they belong. Welcoming America believes that all people, including immigrants, are valued contributors who are vital to the success of our communities and shared future.
Welcoming America’s goal is to promote human rights by hosting events in which people of various backgrounds can interact.
One of these events, Welcoming Pickleball, is at the Islamic Society of Augusta.
Pickleball is a racket sport which requires less physical skill to enjoy than tennis, squash and racketball. Local pickleball enthusiasts are going to use tape to draw courts in the community hall (the basketball court indoors) and the basketball court outdoors. On Saturday, Sep 14, & Saturday, Sep 21, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, those enthusiasts will organize play for beginners and players of other levels. The first session is for women and the 2nd is for men.
Join us to learn pickleball, the fastest growing sport on earth! Anne Rheins and several other pickleball enthusiasts will provide an Introduction to Pickleball event at the Islamic Community Center of Augusta at 1 Islamic Center Dr. Following a brief demonstration of the game, you will have the opportunity to join a Fundamentals lesson. Pickleball is an easy-to-learn sport! You will be having fun hitting the ball and making new friends on the court in no time! Equipment is provided. Just bring water and wear sneakers.
Anne is a USA Pickleball Association Ambassador and has been promoting and teaching pickleball in the CSRA for three years. She recently completed requirements to become a PPR Certified Pickleball Instructor.
Two introductory pickleball events are scheduled. The first, on Saturday, September 14, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM, is for women only, and the second, on Saturday, September 21, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM, is for men only.
This event is part of Welcoming Week Augusta (https://www.facebook.com/welcomingweekaugusta/) and the nationwide Welcoming Week organized by Welcoming America. During this annual series of events, communities bring together immigrants, refugees, and long-time residents in a spirit of unity to build strong connections across the community and affirm the benefits of welcoming everyone – including new Americans.
