CAIR-SC: Addressing U.S. Representative Paul Broun (GA-10th), Sunday, November 1, 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm
On Wednesday, October 14, Paul Broun, the U.S. Representative of the Georgia 10th district, which includes all of Columbia County and some of Richmond County, including where the Islamic Society of Augusta is located, held a press conference in which he and other Congrespeople promoted Islamophobic writings and raised alarms about Muslim advocacy groups’ participation in shaping Homeland Security policies. The Civic Action Comittee of the ISA invites you to come to the masjid Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 12:00 pm for the tafseer program. At 1:00 pm, the President of the South Carolina chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Brother Chaudhry Sadiq, will in sha Allah inform Muslims about the activities of one of the most prominent advocacy groups, CAIR, and what Muslims in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) can do to improve community relations and address instances in which bias subjects people to harm. In addition, Nida Khan, who grew up in Columbia County and graduated from Lakeside High School and the University of Georgia-Athens, interned at the CAIR national office in Washington, DC this summer. She will in sha Allah make a presentation about her experiences there. After Salat al-zuhr, Mr. Chaudhry Sadiq will meet with the Civic Action Committee for a more detailed workshop on what its members can do to address the issues raised by Representative Broun and become more active in achieving its goals.
